Gabe Dietz was only 10 years old when he started saving money to buy a Mustang. At 14, he finally had enough to purchase this one, a 300,000 mile, "trashed" '68 hardtop. His dad Steve joined in and the father/son bonding project began. After two years of rebuilding, Gabe was able to use the car as his high school driver. Since then, he and Steve have been making improvements, such as Total Control power rack-and-pinion, front disc brakes, Pertonix ignition, Griffin radiator, '69 front seats with headrests, and l5-inch wheels with BFG tires. “It was a real garage special that entertained the neighbors big-time," says Steve. "Talk about a learning curve with plenty of busted knuckles."
