Update on new motor progress (last updated 1/7/10):
The new motor is fully assembled and ready to be installed. My goal is to achieve 325-350 rear wheel horse power. But, rather than looking at peak horse power, I'm looking for a nice low end torque curve. Here are some pics of the build progress, click here.

Remove engine and transmission
Drain coolant and disconnect all hoses
Remove radiator and disconnect all vacuum and fuel lines and electrical connections
Disconnect alternator and power steering hose
Remove transmission and engine from car
Remove bell housing, clutch and flywheel from engine
Mount engine on engine stand and strip off all parts to be re-used
Clean up and paint parts
Clean, glass bead and repaint engine parts to be re-used
Clean out and flush engine oil cooler
Assemble new engine
Mount new short block on engine stand
Clean deck surface
Install head studs and install cylinder head
Torque head bolts
Install hex drive shaft, timing cover and seals
Tape off engine and paint
Install aftermarket timing belt drive pulleys
Install degree wheel and determine cam centerline
Degree cam so it is straight up (111 degrees)
Install new water pump
Install thermostat and housing
Clean and install new valve cover
Surface exhaust manifold
Install exhaust manifold and mount turbo and turbo brackets
Had to clearance waste gate actuator mounting hole to fit right
Mount oil pump
Main stud kit does not have provisions for oil pickup tube support. Unable to get a stud that would work
Cut oil pickup tube bracket and fabricated new bracket to work with existing stud
Clean out oil pan and remove loose slag and ends of steel that were hanging off windage tray
Test fit oil pan and check oil pickup tube to pan clearance
Clearance one oil pan blot hole
Mount oil pan on engine
Install lower intake manifold
Install fuel injector rail and sensors
Install front accessories and brackets
Modify braided line for turbo and install
Install upper intake manifold, dipstick tube, oil cooler, and oil filter
Install waterlines, had to cut one tube down and roll new bead on the end
Install water hoses on engine
Fabricate EGR block off plate
Install motor mounts, had to clearance one motor mount
Clean idle speed control motor and throttle body and install on engine
Static time and install distributor
Make up MSD plug wires an install
Steam clean car
Steam clean engine compartment and underside of front and rear of car
Use paint stripper to strip undercoat from car where subframe connectors are going to be mounted
Install urethane bushings in front suspension
Remove rack and pinion, sway bar and lower control arms
Replace rack mounting bushings and sway bar bushings with urethane bushings
Burn rubber a-arm bushings out of steel sleeves
Clean a-arms send them out to have ball joints replaced
Machine a-arms to remove old ball joints and create pockets for new ball joints
Arms blasted and painted with POR-15
Install new serviceable ball joints
New fitted ball joint boot
Replace sway bar
Remove rear end, exhaust and fuel tank
Remove complete rear end from car
Remove mufflers and tail pipes
Pump fuel from fuel tank
Disconnect fuel lines
Return line quick connect has undercut in it and had to be cleaned out to get it apart
Remove fuel tank and remove fuel pump from tank
Install new fuel pump on bracket
Inspect parts for new rear end
Remove upper and lower arms from rear end
Replace both door weatherstrips
Remove trim from around both doors and replace weatherstrips
Reinstall fuel tank
Install new fuel pump into tank
Install tank in car
Remove and replace fuel filter
Install urethane rear suspension bushings
Burn rubber bushings out of upper and lower rear control arms
Press in new urethane bushings
As things progress, I'll post more info...
